City of Freeport — FY2027 Budget Public Input Meeting

Freeport residents and community members are invited to share their thoughts on the City of Freeport’s proposed fiscal year 2027 budget.

City Manager Rob Boyer and Finance Department staff will provide an overview of the budget process before opening the floor for public input.

The meeting will take place in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 314 W. Stephenson Street.

The City’s budget development process will continue through November, with final approval scheduled for December 2026.

Steve Cassell — Seatbelt Citation: First Appearance

Beloved Church Pastor Steve Cassell is scheduled to appear in court on October 1, 2026, at 8:30 a.m., for his first appearance regarding a seatbelt citation.

A judge has not yet been assigned to the matter.

Ecung Sanders — Motion Hearing

Ecung Sanders is scheduled to appear before Judge Schorsch in Courtroom 4 on October 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., for a motion hearing.

A motion hearing allows the court to consider requests filed by either the prosecution or defense. Depending on the motions before the court, the judge may hear arguments, issue rulings, or determine the next steps in the proceedings.

Ecung Sanders — Jury Pre-Trial Hearing

Ecung Sanders is scheduled to appear before Judge Schorsch in Courtroom 4 on October 15, 2026, at 1:30 p.m., for a jury pre-trial hearing.

The hearing comes as Sanders awaits a third trial on child sexual assault charges. A jury pre-trial hearing allows the court to address outstanding legal matters, review trial preparations, and determine whether the case is ready to proceed before a jury.

Stephenson County Board — Status Hearing

The Stephenson County Board is scheduled to appear before Judge Olson in Courtroom 3 on October 21, 2026, at 1:30 p.m., for a status hearing in an ongoing civil lawsuit.

The case, filed by Edward Klein and Kevin Lam on August 21, 2025, names the Stephenson County Board, Stephenson County, Freeport Nursing LLC, Scott Helms, and Jennifer Daugherty as defendants.

A status hearing allows the court to review the progress of the litigation, address outstanding matters, and establish the next steps.

Berry is scheduled to appear before Judge Schorsch in Courtroom 4 for a status hearing.
